Facebook will penalize heavy publications

The artificial intelligence of the social network will penalize the publications that ask for comments or I like

Facebooks continues to renew its platform and underpin its commitment to artificial intelligence algorithms. The latest announcement of the social network is aimed at reducing the frequency of appearance in the News Feed of the platform of those publications aimed at users performing actions such as marking as 'like', sharing or posting comments on them.

To do this, it will launch an automatic learning system with the aim of identifying publication based on this strategy against those who use legitimate methods of loyalty.

Through a statement, the company has explained that its users have made known their dissatisfaction with publications with 'spam' that seek to cause certain interactions in them. This tactic, which Facebook has labeled as 'engagement bait' aims to "take advantage" of the positioning algorithm in the news wall through this strategy to reach more users.

In addition, Facebook has announced for the coming weeks "more stringent" penalties for those pages that use the 'engagement bait' in a systematic way to gain relevance "artificially".

The social network has explained that this system will be launched "in a few weeks" so that those responsible for the pages adapt their content to escape these practices.

The company owned by Mark Zuckerberg has guaranteed that the measure will not harm publications that ask for help or advice, report missing persons or raise money for a charitable cause. Facebook has explained that this system aims to penalize 'posts' that do not comply with the "authenticity" rule that it demands in its News Feed.

Prevent harassment

In addition to looking for a news wall more friendly in terms of the publications that are presented in it. Facebook also works, not only with artificial intelligence, but also makes use of its human resources to stop aggressive publications on its platform.

"We have developed new resources for victims of gender-based violence in partnership with the National Network to End Domestic Violence, in addition to working with more than 150 security experts during the last year in India, Ireland, Kenya, the Netherlands, Spain. , Turkey, Sweden and the US to get information on how we can improve, "explains the American in a statement" We have known stories of people who have blocked several accounts to end up finding the same harasser using a different account. to help prevent those bad encounters, "he adds.

The new tool launched by Facebook is intended to solve this problem, eliminating the notifications that accompany the messages but without requiring a block. "When you ignore a Messenger conversation, it appears in the folder filtered requests inside the message requests folder, instead of appearing directly in your inbox", explains the social network.

To ignore a message, all you have to do is press long on a message and then click on "More" and then select "Ignore". The function allows to read the messages without the sender see if the messages have been read. Ignoring a message also hides the notifications of new messages in that conversation. This feature is now available for individual conversations and soon, they point out, will be available for group messages.
